Skidaway Island State Park

Savannah, GA

December 5th, 2017

We arrived in Savannah expecting to spend one night and head out in the morning en route to Jacksonville, FL. Once we pulled into Skidaway Island State Park however, we knew we had to stay longer! Driving in, it felt like we were in a jungle with spanish moss hanging from the trees. Each site is first come first serve, so you select your site when you get there. We found a fairly private pull through site (68) that was perfect for us. We were greeted by the nicest camp host who told us about a field nearby where dogs are allowed to run off leash. He also told us about the nearby restaurant on the island and informed us downtown Savannah was super dog-friendly as well. Um, sold! Wish we could have stayed longer!

The proximity to Savannah, GA is awesome. We wanted to explore more of the city, but Nick was fighting off a cold so we pretty much hung around Skidaway for the 2 days we stayed. The surrounding area is really nice. There’s a Publix right by the state park as well as a cute little restaurant we ate at twice called the Village Bar and Grille. Everyone was really laid back and nice who worked at the park. The bathrooms were clean and fairly updated, and the washing machines were a welcome sight for me since these had been broken at the last place we stayed.

It’s kind of hard to find the cons to this place! Maybe if we stayed longer we’d find them? There were mosquitoes, but they weren’t unbearable. We were there on the weekend so we didn’t check our cell signal too thoroughly so can’t speak much to that. However, our Verizon cell phones worked well for calls and texts, we just didn’t get online all that much.
